Esther Boyd, a native of Oakley, Kansas, is a Kansas City-based painter and illustrator.

Boyd uses simple, strong brushwork to build compositions of overlapping colors. Her work also depicts inanimate objects in pastel colors and with transparent effects. Boyd’s influences include artists such as John Singer Sargent and Claude Monet, as well as Asian culture, surface design and textiles.

In August, Boyd was one of three artists to earn an honorable mention for her work “Sunlight Peaches” at the National Small Oil Painting Exhibition at Mark Arts (formerly the Wichita Center for the Arts) in Wichita, Kansas.

She studied fine and studio arts at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and earned a bachelor’s degrees in textile design from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. She also holds a master’s in architecture, with a focus on built form and culture, from KU.
