Artfully Missouri: an exhibit of Paintings by Gale Stockwell

“Artfully Missouri: an exhibit of Paintings by Gale Stockwell” (1907-1983) will run from August 17 – Sept. 29, 2017, at the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum at 220 Ferrel Street, Platte City, MO. 64079

Visitors can see how Gale Stockwell helped preserve history in his paintings from 1930-1970 of the farms, wheat fields, homes, towns, historic buildings and countryside of Northwest Missouri. His most well-known work is an oil of Main Street, Parkville, which he completed for the WPA in 1933, during the Great Depression. In 1971, Stockwell discovered that this painting was hanging in the White House, on loan from the Smithsonian Art Museum where it now resides. Exhibit visitors can compare its ... view more »

Additional Hours:  Saturdays - August 23 and Sept. 16 - 10:00 a.m. to 1:oo p.m. AND Thursday eve Sept. 28 from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. to coincide with Platte City's "Sample the City" festival/event.
