Founded in 1964 by Dr. Patricia McIlrath, a tireless crusader for excellent theatre, Kansas City Repertory Theatre is one of the country’s premier regional theatres. Serving as the professional theatre in residence at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), the Rep produces mainstage plays and special events at Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus, located just east of the Country Club Plaza and at Copaken Stage in downtown Kansas City, adjacent to the Power & Light District. Director, producer, and educator Stuart Carden joined KCRep as its fifth Artistic Director in September 2019. He is deeply committed to centering KCRep in this region, and helped establish the KCRep for All community tour, as well as the Ghost Light annual storytelling event.

Kansas City Rep’s ingenious work is created by more than 250 professional artists, technicians and administrators. Each year Rep productions serve more than 100,000 patrons from a five-state region and the theatre’s Education and Outreach programs engage 10,000 school children from the two-state metropolitan area.
