Asleep at the Wheel & Hot Club of Cowtown, Kansas Cowboy Jubilee

Presented by Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College at Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College

Asleep at the Wheel

Ray Benson founded Asleep at the Wheel in Paw Paw, West Virginia, 46 years ago. Now based in Austin, the band holds 10 Grammy awards, 20 studio albums and 20 singles on the Billboard country charts. Asleep at the Wheel, now traveling as an eight-piece band, is bringing a fresh look and sound.

Hot Club of Cowtown

You’d think a band from Austin, Texas, with the word “Cowtown” in its name spends its time off from touring herding cattle at a West Texas ranch, or maybe in Nashville writing songs about whiskey and loose women. Not the Hot Club of Cowtown. “We recently took a band vacation to the Gypsy Festival at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer,” says the band’s fiddler and vocalist, Elana James.

Topics on Kansas history presented by university professors, Kansas historians, authors and Kansas ranchers. Exhibits include trick roping, cowboy art and sculpture, quilts, cowboy boots, hats and saddle displays, Flint Hills Discovery Center, ranch exhibits, steer roping, art activities for the kids and the Mahaffie Stagecoach. NEW this year: cowboy memorabilia for sale!

Parking Info

  • For the best parking, check your tickets for curtain time and arrive 20-25 minutes in advance.
  • Parking at Johnson County Community College is generally free, except for the rare weeknight performance. Ask the box office about reserved parking if the event you're attending is scheduled on a weeknight.
  • The closest place to park is in either the East or West Midwest Trust Center parking garage. To get to the Midwest Trust Center garages, drive onto campus from the east College Boulevard entrance. The garages are two-level lots directly in front of (to the north of) the Midwest Trust Center. "Reserved" spots in the surface lot parallel to the west garage may be used for performance parking.
  • To get to the Galileo's Garden parking structure, drive onto campus at Quivira Road or follow the East Campus inner road east and south to Clock Drive. Turn right on Clock Drive into the parking garage. After you park, walk out of the northeast exit of the garage and follow the sidewalk straight north to the Midwest Trust Center.
