Andy Klein is a Kansas City based metal worker and sculptor who has been working with metals since picking up welding from his father as a teenager. A career spent in the engineering field made simple geometric shapes and patterns a favorite. “Form follows function” can be seen as an influence in most pieces. Minimal embellishment and deco cues are common features. Prior to assembly, each component of a sculpture is finished and textured by hand or using equipment built by Andy. He is a self taught CAD and CNC programmer and utilizes a CNC waterjet cutter he programs and operates himself to produce some components of his work. Finishes vary but include paint, chemical oxidizing, anodizing, heat bluing and plating. Andy’s favorite metal to work with is plain old steel scrounged from the scrap dumpster of his local metal supplier. He has been producing work since 1985, professionally since 2017.
