Jeff Church has served as the Producing Artistic director of The Coterie Theatre in Crown Center since 1990. His career began when he started a children’s theatre in his hometown (La Junta, CO) at age 15 because there were no theatre opportunities for kids. Heoperated it for 15 summers (all through his years at Colorado College, and whilehe was Playwright-in-Residence at the Kennedy Center). He then joined The Coterie, leading the theater to anational presence, highlights for Jeff have included producing The Coterie’s Great Books/Banned Books season,
which included a premiere of The Lord of the Flies. He created The Coterie’s Lab for New Family Musicals working with Broadway creative teams – the productions which premiere at The Coterie are picked up by theaters all over the U.S. (Theatre for Young Audiences version that Jeff has overseen the premieres of include Seussical, Shrek, My Son Pinocchio, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and more.) Jeff has also been a NEA site reporter, a board member of TCG/Theatre
Communications Group, and was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Theatre. He is an adjunct instructor teaching text analysis to the MFA graduate theatre students at UMKC.
