Monica Dixon is a visual artist living and working in Kansas City. Her multimedia practice is focused on relationships between living bodies and the forms that protect and comfort them. Monica studied painting at the Kansas City Art Institute graduating with a BFA in 2011. She was a two-term resident with the Charlotte Street Foundation, has exhibited locally and internationally, and works in the public art realm.

Monica’s studio practice encompasses installation, sculpture, collage, costuming, and movement workshops. Pervasive throughout the various forms her work takes is a fascination with exploring the elusive, seemingly intangible elements of personal reality (memory, emotion, belief, etc.) through sensual experience. She constructs images, objects, spaces, and events meant to encourage playful exploration of the unknown and the uncomfortable.

Shortly after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2011, she spent a half year engaged in work exchanges on organic farms and gardens in Europe. These experiences led to investigative explorations in permaculture, anthropology, and meditation which she continued to pursue upon returning to the United States. In 2014 she lived and worked at the Kripalu School of Yoga and Ayurveda, then traveled to India.
