Rebecca Hackemann is a British/German conceptual artist and photographer, who works in a variety of media (photography, media art, public art, drawing) that are concerned with viewer interaction, optics, 3D, technology, perception and the construction of private and public space. The work is exhibited both in the public realm and in traditional gallery spaces. Some work, such as the stereoscopes, can also function as hand held optical devices, or be projected in 3-D. Hackemann has exhibited in New York, NY, San Francisco, CA, London, England and Philadelphia, PA and was born, raised and educated in Germany, England and America. She is Assistant Professor of Photography at KSU.

She has published papers with MIT Press (LMJ) and JAWS, intellect, as well as e-flux Art and Education Papers.

Hackemann holds an MFA from Stanford University, CA (1996) and received her BFA (Hons) from the University of Westminster, London, UK. (1994) In 2000/2001 she was a Whitney Museum of American Art ISP Program studio fellow in New York. She is completing a PhD in studio art at Chelsea College of Art London. (projected completion 2019).
