Xiao daCunha

I am a Chinese diaspora woman artist. My art depicts my Chinese heritage and how diasporas reconstruct our identities in the United States by giving our cultural new definitions and finding comfort and grounding in nostalgic cultural references. My practice explores the intimate, vulnerable truth of the BIPOC, migrant, immigrant, and diaspora communities. As an artist and a freelance journalist, I consider everything I do journalism. By weaving my experience into public narrative, I create emotional and engaging conversations with my audience to interrogate, challenge, and advance existing perceptions of women, Asian diasporas, and other immigration populations.
