In fall of 2022, Greenlease Gallery on the campus of Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, will reopen as the Greenlease Gallery Panacea Project Space with a mission is to present interdisciplinary exhibitions and programs for the Rockhurst University and greater Kansas City communities that ignite conversations to challenge and expand perception and foster cura personalis—authentic care of others and ourselves in mind, body and spirit.

The gallery is currently seeking proposals for temporary solo or thematic group exhibitions featuring works by contemporary professional artists. The Greenlease Gallery Panacea Project space will exhibit rotating exhibitions and will house the permanent collection of the Van Ackeren Collection of Religious Art. This refreshed space will provide content for viewers to make connections, reflect, and share their thoughts through interpretive displays alongside the artwork. The Greenlease Gallery Panacea Project space will be “a place for solace and insight.”

Once known as the Van Ackeren Gallery in the Greenlease Library (which opened in 1975 and showcased the Rockhurst University Van Ackeren Collection of Religious Art), the Greenlease Gallery was established in 2000 with funding provided by Virginia Greenlease. The Greenlease Gallery historically has featured both temporary rotating exhibitions of contemporary artists’ works and the permanent collection of the Van Ackeren collection of religious art.

Artists interested in being considered for future temporary exhibition (either in a solo or group show) in the Greenlease Gallery Panacea Project Space are encouraged to submit a proposal online by using the online portal on the website https://www.rockhurst.edu/center-arts-letters/greenlease-gallery An artist statement, CV, several digital image examples of work, and a written exhibition proposal that outlines how the works relate to the mission statement are required for consideration.

Exhibition proposals are reviewed by the Director, Center for Arts and Letters together with the Rockhurst University Art on Campus Committee. Artists selected for consideration will be notified via email. A written exhibition contract that states the terms of the exhibition (dates for delivery, installation, deinstallation, insurance, security, lighting, publicity and display) will be sent to artists selected. Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis. Please review the frequently asked questions on the website before submitting a proposal.
