Deadline to apply: Saturday, September 4th, 2021

We deeply appreciate your interest in the Parade of Hearts, a community celebration. Please review this document in its entirety as it outlines the information you need to successfully submit an application for the 2022 Heart Sculpture.

PLEASE NOTE: Artists can only submit one application with a maximum of three heart designs. Applicants that do not follow this guideline and exceed three designs will not be considered.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Parade Of Hearts is a regional, community-wide event, that will showcase local artists through beautifully created Hearts placed throughout the KC region.

From March 2022 to May 2022 the Parade Of Hearts will celebrate artists, historic areas, and the love of our communities. It will bring people together, make communities stronger and create an economic impact in the Kansas City region to help many affected by the events of 2020. Our goal is to connect with many community artists so that the Parade of Hearts is not created “for” the Kansas City region but “by” and “with” those people and organizations that are related to a community: students, parents, families, artists, partner organizations, schools, government agencies, beneficiaries, and more. Anyone and everyone that considers him or herself an artist is invited to participate in the Parade.

The Heart Sculptures created by Kansas City area artists will be the highlight of the Parade Of Heart event. Our hope is that 150-200 beautiful and inspiring Heart Sculptures will be placed in the following counties: Johnson, Jackson, Douglas, Cass, Clay, Platte and Wyandotte.

Our pillars of support include Health & Wellness (University of Kansas Health System), Education (MARC), Small/Minority Owned Businesses (Alt-Cap), Arts & Culture (Local & Regional Artists), and Hospitality & Tourism (Visit KC Foundation). Not only will the Hearts bring life back to our region, a Parade Of Hearts App is being developed to provide information surrounding the event. It will include a tour of the hearts, the artist’s inspiration, historical and other information about the area where the hearts are placed, among other things. Each artist selected will be part of a movement to make our communities stronger, create economic impact, and engage the public to help many who have been affected by the events of 2020/2021. Together, we are better. Thank you for your consideration and interest. We’d love for you to paint your hearts out!

Why?
The events of 2020, which continue to affect us today, have greatly impacted the world and our region. It has changed many people and through that change a group of business influencers, Chase McAnulty (Charlie Hustle), Tucker Trotter (Dimensional Innovations), Shawn Long (KU Health Systems), and Bob Kendrick, (Negro League Baseball Museum), opened their hearts and created an event that has a single, powerful vision: To Unite the Kansas City region around the common purpose of making our community stronger.

The KC region has a long history with the heart, from pins worn by railroad workers in the 1900s to banners on Plaza light poles in the 50’s and 60’s, to the patch on the sleeve of the 1942 Kansas City Monarchs baseball jersey, displayed at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. In 2011, Charlie Hustle began selling KC Heart t-shirts, pulling inspiration from Kansas City’s rich heritage and celebrating its location in the heart of America. And, in 2019, the KCADC adopted the KC Heart as the official global brand of the Kansas City region.
