PLUG, formerly known as Plug Projects, is a curatorial collaboration by Kansas City artists: CJ Charbonneau, Mary Clara Hutchison, Craig Deppen Auge, Cesar Lopez, Megan Ganey, Travis Smorstad and Sam Haan, who share the mission of bringing fresh perspectives and conversation to the local cultural community. Our goal is to engage artists and the public at large by exhibiting challenging new work, initiating critical dialogue, and expanding connections of artists in Kansas City as part of a wider, national network of artists.
Since 2011, PLUG’s collaborative organizational model has enabled the responsibilities of the project to be shouldered by an accomplished team, making for a richer experience and also a more feasible workload. This allows for each artist to continue their studio practice while participating in PLUG. In 2020, PLUG transitioned to a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which allows for more financial freedom and flexibility. PLUG maintains its curatorial and collaborative spirit, now with each collaborator occupying a position on PLUG’s Board of Directors, and looks forward to a future that will build on PLUG’s illustrious past.
By providing access to exhibition space, collaborative possibilities, and innovative programming for creatives, free of charge and independent of commercial considerations, PLUG seeks to contribute to the reinvigoration of the arts ecosystem both locally and regionally.
