Baltimore-based sculptor, weaver, musician, and educator Joyce J. Scott, a 2016 recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship, presents her most ambitious sculpture to date, a monumental figure based on Harriet Tubman, at Kansas City’s Union Station.
Baltimore-based sculptor, weaver, musician and educator Joyce J. Scott is most recognized for her work in jewelry, beadwork, and glass. Scott’s art reflects her personal take on all aspects of American popular culture, her ancestry, and the immediate world of her neighborhood. Her pieces also serve as commentary for issues regarding race, politics, sexism, and stereotypes.
