This body of work is the reflection of my own personal experiences and how I see the world around me. These works were designed to be a personal reflection but to also embrace the audience with a sense of familiarly and an understanding that these events could have happened to anyone. I wanted the audience to be able to see how everyday events or ‘snapshots in time’ can affect the creative process and be ingrained in the form of memories. I wanted the idea of a piece of artwork based around everyday events to highlight how inspiration forms from very basic ideas, something which the audience could relate to.
The topics of my artwork are heavily focused on single specific events that have left me with unique memories that are not necessarily of importance but linger in the back of my mind and are thought about often. For example, ‘saturday afternoon’ is a look back at my teenage years spent working in the world-famous Borough Market in London with my late father who owned a business there. It is a look back on the vibrant colors, sounds and smells that would engulf the spaces around me and produced a vivid memory to brings me comfort.
This collection is a shift from my previous works which were heavily influenced by tattoo artists such as Gregg Iron and Cliff Raven. I find myself being more fluid and open with my interpretations of ideas and concepts and allowing myself to express myself without the confines of bold black lines and set designs. The transition in style has allowed me to evolve as an artist and has brought me to a point where I can effectively create artwork that represents myself but also appeals to a wide audience.
