RESCHEDULED - Bottoms Up: An Art and Music Festival

The Second Annual Bottoms Up: An Arts and Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 19th and is presented through a collaboration between the Arts Asylum, The Black Box, Northeast Chamber of Commerce/Independence Avenue Community Improvement District, Paseo West Neighborhood Association, Historic West Bottoms and Pendleton ArtsBlock. The purpose is to highlight the work of local artists from a variety of mediums in four historic urban core neighborhoods, Paseo West Neighborhood Association, the Historic West Bottoms, Pendleton Heights and the Old Northeast by attracting local, regional and national visitors to explore and purchase art from a wide variety of local artists, get information from local arts organizations, and enjoy performances from local musicians and actors. The three-day event will kick off Thursday evening with a jazz showcase presented by the Mutual Musicians’ Foundation at The Arts Asylum in celebration of National Jazz  Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day. Friday evening will feature a live concert with the popular KC bands, Battery Tour and The Freedom Affair at The Black Box for a modest charge of $10. Food trucks, beverages and more will be on site. Saturday provides art opportunities at three sites in the Historic Northeast from 10 – 3. Trolleys with tour guides will take guests to and from all the sites at their own pace for a $5 fee. Sites and activities for the day include: Open Studio Mimosa Brunch highlighting the work of the Arts Asylum’s 24 tenant artists, whose mediums range from stained glass to balloon art to fabric artists to photographers; artists’/makers’ booths and a pop up chalk walk  at the EGG Gallery; and children’s arts activities and Open House at the new Pendleton ArtsBlock a 38-unit art-focused housing development with year round arts programming and a business incubator for artists entrepreneurs. Food trucks will be available at the Northeast Chamber of Commerce’s parking lot, which is within easy walking distance of The EGG and ArtsBlock. Booth rental fees are affordable to encourage a broad range of participation of new and emerging local artists.  Tickets and call for artists applications are on the event website.
