Convocation is an every-five year gala celebration of the William Baker Choral Foundation. The 2020 concert will feature performances by the Kansas City-based William Baker Festival Singers, the New South Festival Singers from Atlanta, Georgia, under the direction of Andrew Phillip Schmidt, the Leawood MS Mixed Choir from Kansas, and the handbell ensemble Kansas City Bronze. Choral Foundation Convocation 2020
Convocation is an every-five year gala celebration of the William Baker Choral Foundation. The 2020 concert will feature performances by the Kansas City-based William Baker Festival Singers, the New South Festival Singers from Atlanta, Georgia, under the direction of Andrew Phillip Schmidt, the Leawood MS Mixed Choir from Kansas, and the handbell ensemble Kansas City Bronze. The concert will be followed by a Wine & Homemade Cookie Reception. The William Baker Choral Foundation began with the creation of the first Festival Singers chorus in suburban Atlanta on February 26, 1985. A gala concert commemorates the event every five years. 2020 is the first time Convocation has been held in Kansas City. The 90-minute concert will feature selections from each of the participating ensembles, before they join in thrilling mass choir selections by Beethoven and Handel and from the gospel tradition.
