Deaf Cultural Day

Our 3rd annual Deaf Cultural Day in partnership with the Deaf Cultural Center, Mid America Alliance for Access and The Whole Person.

Celebrate Kansas City’s Deaf Cultural Month at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art with our third annual Deaf Cultural Day and Reel to REAL: Movies and Conversation film series. The day will include American Sign Language poetry performances, film, tour, and artist demonstrations. In partnership with the Deaf Cultural Center, Mid America Alliance for Access and The Whole Person.

Temporary tattoos and drawing activity by De’VIA artist David Call.

De’VIA in Action:
11 a.m.–Noon, Classrooms 4 & 5
Meet Californian artist David Call. Learn about his artwork and create a De’VIA inspired print. Deaf View/ Image Art (De’VIA) is art that tells the story of the Deaf experience.

ASL Poetry Performances
10:30–11 a.m. Bloch Lobby
American Sign Language Performance by Kansas School for the Deaf students.

12:15-12:45 p.m. Bloch Lobby
Patrick Graybill, actor, performer, and the grandfather of ASL poetry, presents original American Sign Language poetry.

Tour
1-2 p.m., Meet at the Bloch Lobby information desk
Highlights Collection Tour with American Sign Language Interpretation.

PARKING INFO

Entrance to the Parking Garage is off Oak Street, just south of 45th Street. The garage is fully ADA accessible. Parking is $14 per car | Free for members A free lot at the corner of 45th Street and Rockhill Road is available first come, first served. Public parking may not be available there during special events.
