Hardship to Hope, Platte County's Story in Art and Artifact

Through May 31, Thurs/Fridays 1-4 pm (Sunday May 5 from 1-4 pm) the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum at 220 Ferrel Street, Platte City, will feature the display Hardship to Hope: A Story of Platte County in Art and Artifact. The display includes enlarged illustrations from Matthew Silber’s book History Illustrated paired with local artifacts with a Civil War emphasis. Silber’s art captures not only scenes from significant events but the emotions of those involved, reminding us that personal stories create our collective history and that in this we can discover our common humanity. The pictorial representation spans settlement through post-Civil War.

In this display, the Platte County Historical Society honors the late artist Matthew Silber (1977-2019),  in memoriam. Silber published the artwork and historical descriptions in the book History Illustrated in 2014.  Copies will be available for purchase at the museum during open hours:  each Thursday and Friday from 1-4 pm & an open house on Sunday, May 5 from 1-4 pm.  Additional information to society /museum Facebook page.
