KCAC October Exhibition Openings

Exhibitions will feature the work of KATHERINE COLBORN & ANNIE HAYES in the Main Gallery and RACHEL FERBER in the Snap Space.

KATHERINE COLBORN: Katherine Colborn is an artist living and working in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her BA in Studio Art and English from Xavier University and her MFA in Studio Art with a focus on Drawing and Painting at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Her work engages with themes of sanctuary and threshold, exploring the place of painting in a culture saturated with an abundance of imagery.

ANNIE HAYES: “My practice consists of making abstract paintings. Initially, process is important in the creation of a painting. In addition to using found material (discarded cardboard boxes), much of my work begins with a systematized use of pre-made material that I designate as tools in my process. The foundation of my paintings is a series of steps that involve known and random actions. At a certain point, I use what my systematic work has presented and move away from that to other visual considerations.”

RACHEL FERBER: “Moving between multiple bodies of work, my practice combines video, sculpture, performance, and garment and textile design. These endeavors inform each other and are united through their connection to my background in marketing and branding, as well as a preoccupation with the complicated ways that this language of consumption affects human experience. My work is ultimately rooted in a desire for alternatives. I intend to make a mess of what I know—to return to a more raw state. This process begins from a place of observation and questioning.”
