The rides captured through Ariaz’s photographs have their roots in Creole culture from the 18th Century and still provide an opportunity for generations of people to gather, celebrate and ride horseback. Jeremiah Ariaz received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from the State University of New York at Buffalo. His artworks explore the West as both a physical space and a terrain for the imagination. His most recently completed project, LOUISIANA TRAIL RIDERS is a bridge between his long-standing interest in the American West and his current home in the South. UL Press released a monograph of the work in 2018. Ariaz is a Professor at Louisiana State University.
