LV Arts at the Park

The first annual LV Arts at the Park will be a huge, county-wide celebration of the arts. Taking place at Stubby Park in Leavenworth,KS from 10AM-6PM on August 26th, 2023, this creative, educational, and entertaining event will feature a platform stage that hosts surrounding performing arts groups from community bands, choirs, theater, and dance troupes.

Large 4×6 foot screened frames exhibiting the art of contest winners from across the county will be placed around the park for an immersive arts experience. Art-making opportunities for all ages and abilities will be offered throughout the day.

A large-scale mural will be painted on the grass of the ‘sledding hill’ facing 4th street – serving as a means for arts-immersion and excitement. Kids will be led by LV Arts volunteer groups through guided imaginative play, transforming the playground into a ‘Space Exploration,’ ‘Superhero Adventure,’ and even ‘A WILD Trip to the Grocery Store.’

We will have a call for artists throughout the county in hopes to facilitate 20 or more artist tents in the park, including tents for youth artists to share and sell their work.

Both en plein air and life drawing groups will be scheduled to meet at specific times to facilitate group art-making. We plan to partner with several local organizations and vendors, as well as host a  ‘PAINT a car or truck.’

As a grand finale, we will have a ‘Color Jamboree’ at the end of the event, where community members dance together to fun music amidst lots of fun colored powder distributed by our LV Arts team.

This year’s theme for LV Arts at the Park is “Rock, Paper, Scissors,”as we believe it is the perfect combination of art + play. Angie Pickman has been selected as this year’s featured artist and she has agreed to facilitate a paper cutting workshop as a promotion leading up to the event, as well as be present at the event to demonstrate her skills. Most art-making activities will be centered around the “rock, paper, scissors” theme, from rock painting and building to paper cutting and folding.
