Opening Reception, Standard Bearer - Paintings by Cesar Lopez

plug is pleased to announce the first show appearing in its new gallery location, at 1328 Agnes Ave, KCMO. Standard Bearer, an exhibition of paintings by Cesar Lopez, opens on July 16, 2021. Lopez’s studio practice investigates national identity through symbols of geography. The paintings in Standard Bearer reflect on the visual language of the flag, as a signifier of collective identity. Whether for nations or other groups, flags serve as a potent representation of core values and are often used in ceremonies and rituals. Lopez uses color and geometry to reflect on the significance of these objects, as he forms his own sense of place and belonging. The show will be on view from 7/16/21 – 8/27/21
