Puerto Rican artist Lee Quiñones is credited as one of the early originators of street art. For Open Spaces, Quiñones has transformed one of the outer walls of the Kansas City Zoo into a mural depicting the animal and human kingdoms.

Puerto Rico-born artist Lee Quiñones was raised on New York City’s Lower East Side and is credited as one of the early originators of street art. Quiñones started painting on New York City’s streets and subway cars in the 1970s, and over the next decade would cover more than a hundred subway cars throughout the MTA system, before shifting to a largely studio-based practice.
