Spontaneous Experiments: Gatherings for Improvisational Expression

Calling musicians, dancers, and other performing improvisers: Spontaneous Experiments is designed as an open workshop to collaborate with others in the Kansas City arts community in a welcoming, experimental environment.
Serving as an alternative to traditional “jam sessions”, Spontaneous Experiments does not require a common knowledge of songs, or specific artistic language. Each session will be based on free, open improvisational performances. Not looking to perform, but want to attend? Please come! We’d love to have you.
Spontaneous Experiments will begin Tuesday, June 14 and take place every other week through August (and hopefully beyond!)
If you are looking to perform using a discipline other than music or dance, please let us know prior to the session so we can figure out the best way to accomodate your improvisational voice. Comedians, actors, poets, video artists, etc – you’re all welcome! (Just make sure your peformance is able to be improvised).

How Does it Work?
Upon arrival at Spontaneous Experiments, each performer will put their name in a bucket. Names will be chosen at random to perform in enembles of varying size. Each performance will be kept to under 10 minutes, before moving on to the next grouping of performers.* We reserve the right to choose specific performers, to ensure performing time remains balanced.

What To Bring?
– Bring whatever you need to convey your specific artistic craft.- A drum set will be provided, as will a small PA system for vocals.- BYOB (please don’t abuse this).- A little bit of cash to help support Kindness Arts KC.

Rules
– No live art (painting, drawing, etc). Unfortunately we cannot facilitate this, due to the risk of the mess. So sorry – RESPECT THE SPACE. Kindness Arts KC is providing an incredible gift in letting us offer Spontaneous Experiments there. Please treat it as you would your own home.- RESPECT EVERYONE. This is a no-bad-vibe zone. If you’re throwing out bad vibes, being disrespectful, or are just coming to show off, we will ask you not to return.- Please try to show up right at 7:30pm or a little bit before. This will really help with ensuring everyone gets the opportunity to perform.- Please plan to stay the duration of the event, if you are able. SUPPORT FELLOW ARTISTS.
