The 2017-18 Park University International Center for Music concert season resumes on Friday, Jan. 26, with a performance featuring the dynamic husband-and-wife duo of violinist Ben Sayevich and pianist Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich. The event, a part of the Park ICM Faculty Concert Series and Park ICM 1900 series, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the 1900 Building, 1900 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Mission Woods, Kan.
The Lithuanian-Israeli Sayevich is one of the most distinguished violinists and teachers of his generation. A founding member of the Park Piano Trio and Quartet Accorda, as well as a violinist with the London-based Rosamunde Piano Trio, Sayevich has concertized extensively throughout North America, Europe and the Far East. Sayevich currently serves as professor of music/violin for the ICM, and maintains a vigorous schedule as chamber musician.
Originally from Uzbekistan, Lisovskaya-Sayevich is an accomplished pianist. She won first prizes at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Gottingen, Germany, the Nikolai Rubinstein International Competition in Paris and the Iowa Piano International Competition. She studied under ICM founder and artistic director Stanislav Ioudenitch while a student in the ICM, earning a graduate certificate in 2008, and currently serves as the ICM’s director of collaborative piano.
The concert is scheduled to include the following selections:
- “Adagio in E Major, K. 261,” composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
- “Dances and Laments for Violin and Cello,” composed by Peter Fribbins (will include a special guest appearance by cellist Daniel Veis, ICM assistant professor of music/cello)
- “Violin Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 108,” composed by Johannes Brahms
- “Violin Sonata in A Minor, FWV 8,” composed by César Franck
- “Zigeunerweisen, Op. 20,” composed by Pablo de Sarasate
