Films have been entertaining the masses for well over 100 years. They have gotten us through our most difficult times, allowing us an escape from the chaos that often plagues daily life. However, the sole purpose of creating films should not merely be entertainment, but, rather,  like all lasting art, it should be used as a weapon to combat societal ills while challenging its audience to take action. By guiding us through his film catalogue and sharing insight into the social, political and historical context of each work, award-winning, social activist filmmaker Ya’Ke Smith will interrogate the role of the artist during times of social upheaval and challenge us all to rethink our creative framework.
