The performance and audiovisual recording of all nine Beethoven symphonies within four days at the 2009 Beethoven Festival in Bonn was a staggering achievement. Grammy Award-winning conductor Paavo Järvi led the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in this singular project that also gave birth to a documentary and a “making of”. Inspired by historical performance practice, Järvi gives a thoroughly radical, new, and thrilling reading of these familiar works with an ensemble playing on modern and historical instruments.
