Wendy Red Star
Raised on the Apsáalooke (Crow) reservation in Montana, Wendy Red Star’s work is informed both by her cultural heritage and her engagement with many forms of creative expression, including photography, sculpture, video, fiber arts and performance. An avid researcher of archives and historical narratives, Red Star seeks to incorporate and recast her research, offering new and unexpected perspectives in work that is at once inquisitive, witty and unsettling. The JCCC Fine Arts department is working in collaboration with the JCCC Black Student Union; Multicultural Programming Advisory Board; Sustainability; and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce to install an outdoor exhibition of Bright’s work from 1960s Now in and around the Fine Arts & Design Studios (FADS) building Oct. 26-Nov. 23, 2020. This exhibition includes outdoor portraits of leaders from civil rights groups and a viewer interactive installation.
