Our Digital Film Haus is celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a series featuring various documentaries and discussions about LUDWIG VAN. Each film focuses on a different aspect of the composer’s work and life to explore influences and interpretations of his unforgettable music.

We are thrilled to welcome Arantxa Aguirre, the director of Dancing Beethoven, for a virtual Happy Hour Q&A. Ms. Aguirre will join us via Zoom from Spain for this discussion on Tuesday, June 2nd at 5:00 pm (CDT).

About Arantxa Aguirre:

Born in Madrid, Arantxa Aguirre has a PH in Spanish Literature and has published two books: Buñuel, A Reader of Galdós (Pérez Galdós International Research Award, 2003) and 34 Actors Talk About Their Job (2008), as a sequel of her documentary film Hecuba. A Dream of Passion (2006) – nominated to Goya Award. She has worked as assistant director of Pedro Almodóvar, Mario Camus, or Carlos Saura, among other filmmakers.

Her filmography as writer and director includes the award-wining documentaries Le coeur et le courage (2010), American swan in Paris (2011) and Dancing Beethoven (2016), which has been theatrically released in Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, and Spain. She has also directed many other documentaries and live video recordings as Mozart’s The Magic Flute, A woman of the theatre, A rose for Antonio Soler, or Love and death: The story of Enrique Granados. Her last work about the Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán is now in the editing room. In 2020 she has been elected member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
