Matthews is a jazz guitarist from KC who tours the world with the Basie orchestra, performs as guitarist for the 18th & Vine Big Band, and released a debut CD, Solo, in 2000, followed by 2009’s Count on Swingin’.

Matthews is a jazz guitarist who was born and raised in Kansas City, where he lives and works today. In 1996, he joined the Count Basie Orchestra as lead guitarist and played on two successive Grammy-winning recordings: Count Basie Orchestra Live at Manchester Guild (1997) and Count Plays Duke (1999). Matthews continues to tour the world with the Basie orchestra, and performs closer to home as guitarist for the 18th & Vine Big Band, led by Bobby Watson.
