Established in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the mission and purpose of the Theatre Community Fund of Kansas City is to support all KC-based theatre artists, technicians, and staff in times of financial distress or hardship by means of volunteer support, food bank donations, and direct financial relief / grants.
We assist under-represented theatre artists with getting their original work produced through the Crescendo Awards. The Crescendo Awards are a grant and mentorship program, providing both financial assistance and producing assistance. All award recipients receive free rehearsal and performance space, access to professional technicians, and mentorship through the producing process.
Products in our food pantry, hosted at The Arts Asylum, are available to the general public and include non-perishable food, hygiene products, and pet supplies. We host collection drives at events all over town, including partnerships with KCRep, Unicorn Theatre, The Coterie, Starlight Theatre, OCTA, and more. TCF also offers a FREE Masterclass series, where local artists can take courses and workshops from professional artists in many disciplines. This is free to students, but all instructors are compensated for their time and expertise.
