For artist Catherine Kirkland, each day is an opportunity to learn something new. She learns through challenging herself to learn a new technique or attempt a new subject with each painting she creates. Her current visual arts pursuits follow a 35+ year career as an art director, graphic designer and production manager in advertising and publishing.   After becoming active in the local visual arts scene, she has mounted solo shows locally and regionally, juried into many group exhibits and won several awards. Ms. Kirkland works both in a precise, hard-edged abstract style, as well as in a highly detailed, neo-pointillism technique, using brushes and unconventional tools. She creates movement and modeling with thousands of colorful dots that swirl over a detailed underpainting. Using vibrant, cheerful colors and intricate patterns, Catherine's primary goal is to bring a sense of joy to the viewer. She takes delight in watching exhibit guests take in her art from afar, then draw closer and react with amazement at the layers of color and dots that make up the images. In January 2021, Ms Kirkland began expanding her offerings though opening an online store to sell apparel and merchandise featuring her artwork. In collaboration with Capoeira instructor, Felipe Roberson-Torrech, she created the Freedom Collection which benefits The Stop Trafficking Project. This local organization works to bring awareness to youth and adults to prevent human trafficking. Info on web site.
