My paintings are an investigation of space and composition. I lay out many different layers of paint. I apply the paint thin and watery enough for the layers to remember the original color.. I make images that seek to achieve a connection to the mind – a feeling of nostalgia, a pleasant familiarity.. The central focus of my painting is always on the creation of something that will be pleasing to the eye. . Many directions and various styles have trickled down into one identity that is evident in my work - my voice as an artist. In this body of work I have designed simple large-scale square compositions of ideas that are easily identifiable, but seem out of place; A solitary tennis court blocked in by a wall and swallowed within a vast desert. I am in continuous search of arrangements that I like and often times make snapshots on my camera in a sort of brainstorm that will culminate into a completely new arrangement a blending of my photos into one composition. This body of work is an insight into a familiar antiquated concept, but in a neoteric context. ,I hope for my paintings to invite the viewer to draw new explanations, and to analyze introspectively – not in hopes of knowing what they meant for me, but in a way that allows an individual to find out what it means for his or her self. Both feelings are true, humans visually perceive things different ways. It is these truths that interest me – it is the essence of my creative process.
