Jacob Hayes earned his BFA in painting from the University of Kansas with a minor in psychology. In 2014 he completed his MFA at the New York Academy of Art where he studied oil painting and became fluent in human anatomy and figural representation. Hayes’s interests in psychology and portraiture is evident throughout his work.

Hayes’s paintings have been featured in both solo and group exhibitions including “Artists by Artists” at Forum Gallery, New York, “About Face” at the South Hampton Art Center, South Hampton NY, and “Summer Exhibition” at Flowers Gallery, NY. In 2016, his portrait Grady was accepted into the competitive and prestigious BP Portrait Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, which also traveled to the Usher Gallery in Lincoln and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.

Hayes recently received a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and was selected as the Eric Fischl Artist-in-residence in 2017 at the West Nottingham Academy, Maryland. He was a semifinalist in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2019. Jacob’s art has been written about in the Times of London and The New York Times.
