That Old Black Magic

That Old Black Magic

Presented by Quality Hill Playhouse at Quality Hill Playhouse

In a career that spanned six decades, Harold Arlen wrote over 400 songs and is, arguably, one of the Founding Fathers of the Great American Songbook. A master tunesmith, he wrote for The Cotton Club, Broadway, and Hollywood, and had a unique talent for infusing the blues into his songs. This intimate, original, and exciting revue features nearly two dozen of Arlen’s songs, including jazz standards “Stormy Weather,” “I’ve Got the World on a String,” “Blues in the Night,” and “That Old Black Magic;” Broadway tunes “I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues,” “Sweet and Hot,” and “Come Rain or Come Shine;” and film songs “The Man That Got Away,” “One for My Baby,” and “Over the Rainbow.”

Vocalists Lauren Braton, Christina Burton, and LeShea Wright will heat up the cold winter nights with their sizzling renditions of these classic favorites, backed by J. Kent Barnhart on piano, Ken Remmert on drums, Kevin Payton on bass, and Matt Baldwin on clarinet and saxophone.
