Kemper Museum presents a panel discussion inspired by the life, work, and legacy of Afro-Cuban artist Belkis Ayón. Organized and moderated by Joseph R. Hartman (UMKC), art writer and professor of Art History and Latinx Studies, this panel brings together scholars, artists, and performers engaged with the art and culture of the Caribbean and Latin American diaspora to explore issues of self-making, art, and spirituality in conjunction with the exhibition, Nkame.

Panelists:
Firelei Báez — Dominican-born, New York-based artist. Her installation, To See Beyond Its Walls, is on view through June 2018 and is part of the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection
Laura Berman — Kansas City-based artist, Professor, Printmaking Department, KCAI
