Chelsea Chen Recital and Hymn Festival

Chelsea Chen Recital and Hymn Festival

Presented by Kansas City American Guild of Organists at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Organist and composer Chelsea Chen (b. 1983) is internationally renowned for her concerts of “rare musicality” and “lovely lyrical grandeur,” and a compositional style that is “charming” and “irresistible” (Los Angeles Times). Ms. Chen is a graduate of Juilliard, where she received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. She was also a full scholarship recipient at Yale University, where she earned an Artist Diploma. In 2014 she became Organist and Artist-in-Residence at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She splits her time between Florida and New York, where she is also Artist-in-Residence at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.

The holy act of singing together shapes faith, heals brokenness, transforms lives, and renews peace. Our convention Hymn Festival will focus on Isaiah's Dream 11:6-9, “And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child will lead them (v.6).” The service will be divided into seven sections: Sing Praise, Sing Care, Sing Welcome, Sing Justice, Sing Freedom, Sing Hope, and Sing Peace and with timely texts sung by the audience and thoughtful anthems by the choir.

Additional Participants:
Mel Bringle, narrator/speaker
New Hymn Text by Mel Bringle "God’s Dream Is like a Haunting Song"
