Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” with Barber’s Piano Concerto

Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” with Barber’s Piano Concerto

Presented by Kansas City Symphony at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Rossini’s William Tell Overture gallops out of the gate in this energetic Kansas City Symphony concert, followed by pianist Alessio Bax who returns to perform Barber’s technically demanding Piano Concerto. Mendelssohn’s boyhood trip to Scotland inspired his Symphony No. 3, “Scottish.” Esteemed conductor Edo de Waart leads us through Mendelssohn’s lilting score with its impressions of ancient palace ruins, an old bagpipe melody and lively Scottish dances. Tickets from $25.
