Copland’s ballet Appalachian Spring is the touching story of a rural Pennsylvania wedding, whose score includes variations on the heartfelt Shaker hymn “Simple Gifts.” Ravel’s La valse is a musical journey filled with incredible beauty, sensuality and a sense of instability, as the fantastic waltz spins into oblivion.
