Included in the Opens Spaces – Expanded Field: The 27-year-old, Nashville born singer, songwriter, and pianist will bring her blues, pop, R&B, and jazz crossover to the Folly Stage.
This year’s awaited Spotlight artist is Kandace Springs! The 27-year-old, Nashville born singer, songwriter, and pianist counts such stylists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone as her heroes, but mimics none of them. Springs prefers to allow her comely alto to become a conduit that touches upon soul, jazz, and pop while transforming those aforementioned influences into a personalized sound that reveals itself effortlessly.
Her 2014 self-titled debut EP, with a decidedly contemporary R&B/Hip-hop feel, was well received, placing the artist on TV performances including the Late Show With David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
As she began work on her next album, she felt she wasn’t singing her true self. So after some time of reflection and soul-searching, Springs began work on Soul Eyes. This album drew out her soul and jazz sounds that she resonated with and that her voice was built for.
