Confluence Theatre Company’s take on Shakespeare’s play exploring authoritarianism, ideological divides, and rape culture.
The city of Vienna is overrun with brothels and vice, but the Duke is unwilling to follow its strict laws to penalize his citizens. He pretends to go on a trip, leaving his deputy, Angelo, in charge, but disguising himself to keep an eye on his actions. After Angelo decides to execute Claudio for getting his fiancé pregnant, his sister Isabella steps in to try to save him from death.
This isn’t “just Shakespeare”. This is a play about right now tackling toxic masculinity, the imbalance and abuse of power, and governmental corruption. Measure for Measure addressed the issues of the #MeToo and and #TimesUp movement centuries before they began. This production isn’t set in the past, but in our present. With Shakespeare’s text front and center, this interactive theatrical production is scored with live music. CTC brings storyteller and audience together in a shared experience. No Lights Up & Down. No proscenium. No separation between actor and audience.
Event is PAY WHAT YOU CAN. However, due to the intimacy of the venue, we suggest reserving seats ahead of time through the Eventbrite.
