Smith has prepared “Breathing Room,” a large site-specific denim sculpture for Kansas City that is designed to come into being as the result of a group-based collaborative effort.
A New York-and Los Angeles-based painter and sculptor known for colorful installation art and paintings that incorporate found textiles and various collage materials, Shinique Smith is consistently inspired by the vast nature of the ‘things’ we consume and discard, which resonate for her on a personal and social scale. In keeping with her interest in the working process, Smith has prepared Breathing Room, a large site-specific denim sculpture for Kansas City that is designed to come into being as the result of a group-based collaborative effort.
