“Pneumatopia,” an environment of Synthetic Cells, fundamentally transforms the gallery space through large inflatable transparent/translucent structures that interact directly with the surrounding rooms by creating impromptu passageways.
A New York-based multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in Kansas City, Rees works with themes of figuration, language, technology, and social space. Pneumatopia, his environment of Synthetic Cells, fundamentally transforms the gallery space through large inflatable transparent/translucent structures that interact directly with the surrounding rooms by creating impromptu passageways, apertures, and overlapping colored shapes. Rees’s Synthetic Cells were first seen earlier this year at Grounds for Sculpture in New Jersey.
