Sid Garrison: Backstory

Sid Garrison: Backstory

Presented by Kiosk Gallery at Kiosk Gallery

We hope you will join us on Third Friday, September 21st, as we present Backstory, a solo exhibition of abstract colored pencil drawings by Sid Garrison. These works, spanning the years 2008 to 2011, offer an introduction to Garrison’s visual language.

From the artist’s statement:

Committed to abstraction, I work exclusively in colored pencil on paper, teasing out atmospheres and memory fragments from daily life as I draw. The measure I set for myself is to make each drawing unique, both in palette and complexity. My technique includes small, repetitive lines that build up to form complex planes of color. The resulting bodies of work function like a collection of short stories … linked by compositional decisions that may result in quiet with open spaces, or bursting with stippling or a tangle of contours. I “free” images by emphasizing more lyrical and personal content, and by what I hope is a unique approach to color and form.
