Local artist Jason Pollen exhibits mixed media works that continue his exploration of luxurious textiles and detailed surfaces.
Opening Reception, September 7th 5:00-8:00pm
Local artist, Jason Pollen is an artist, designer and educator with an impressive career. In 2010 he retired as Professor and Chair of the Fiber Department at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he taught since 1983. Prior to Kansas City, Pollen served on the faculties of the Royal College of Art in London, Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute in New York City. He also designed textiles for renowned fashion and home furnishing firms.
The exhibit’s title, INSIDE/OUT references the artist’s fascination with how surfaces can both conceal and reveal. His mixed media works often layer luxurious fabrics with bright, gestural stitching. The artist hopes these detailed and playful surfaces will encourage the viewers to slow down, think about the un-seen creative process, and question the motives behind the artist’s decisions. The exhibit will feature work from four series, Portals, Outliers, Descendants and Oracles, including new work.
Admission is free and open to the public.
