Folk Alliance International presents Finest Folk First Fridays

A “listening-room” concert series presenting a diverse selection of the finest in local and regional folk music. Come and listen with us. Free and open to the public. 

November's Finest Folk event will feature two performances by Enrique Chi, leader of Kansas City-based Latinx Alternative band Making Movies, located at our new office in the Crossroads District.

Enrique is the leader and songwriter of the band Making Movies. Their critically acclaimed new album, I Am Another You, peaked at #3 on the Latin Albums Billboard charts. NPR called it “lyrically and sonically one of the best albums of the year,” and American Songwriter described it as “dizzying yet cohesive, like the soundtrack for some yet un-written film.”

Despite a busy schedule of national and international touring, Enrique and the band manage to stay connected to the Kansas City community. This summer, Making Movies hosted its 8th annual music camp at the Mattie Rhodes Center. Also in 2018, they launched Art As Mentorship, a new non-profit to expand their community work and develop a program for young songwriters. This led Rolling Stone (Colombia) to describe Making Movies as “a band breaking down barriers in the United States.”
