An original radio play that celebrates and spoofs Orson Welles’ legendary War of the Worlds broadcast.
The Martians are coming! Rex Dexter and the War of the Worlds brings interplanetary war to the stage at Crown Center, November 16-17.
Using excerpts from the 1938 "panic broadcast", the Right Between the Ears troupe will spin a ridiculous radio tale that includes alien visitors, Nazi storm troopers, cheeky robots, death rays and Orson Welles.
The first chapter of Rex Dexter's amazing adventures premiered at the 2018 KC Fringe Festival. Rex Dexter and the War of the Worlds picks up the action immediately after Rex and his pals accidentally destroyed the Earth while attempting to save it from a runaway planet. Only now, they've been plunged 80 years into the past -- to October 30, 1938, the night of the infamous War of the Worlds broadcast, which was so realistic it convinced many radio listeners that an actual Martian invasion was underway.
Featured in the cast are Michael Quentin Foster, Brie Henderson, David Martin, Jason Miller and Jerry Nevins. Live sound effects will be created on stage by Mary Ellen Kriegh.
