FREE January 15 at 7 pm. Olathe Indian Creek Library. Kansas City 2013 Heritage Musician of the Year and yodeling champion Gary Kirkland continues to entertain audiences locally and around the world, just as he has since the early 1970s.
Singer and songwriter Gary Kirkland uses his acrobatic vocals to sing about love, chickens, trains, TV dinners, outhouses, sunshine, moonshine and no telling what else. The International Jimmy Rodgers Yodeling Champion has appeared on KCPT Public Television, Nebraska Public Television and played for President Jimmy Carter. Kirkland, born to a Baptist preacher in Claxton, GA, sang in church, while delivering papers, mowing the grass and driving his old Chevy truck. His influences include Elvis Presley, Eddie Arnold, Hank Williams, Lightnin' Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt.
