Free Concert - Songs of the Midwest: Hope Dunbar & Tim Grimm

Presented by Olathe Public Library at Olathe Indian Creek Library

Hope Dunbar grew up in Mission Viejo, CA. As the wife of a minister, Dunbar started singing folk songs with a friend to help her adjust to her husband's first posting, a small-town church in Iowa. She soon started writing her own songs. Her style combines Americana and Country-Folk, portraying everyday routines and rituals. Her latest album, Three Black Crows, is a masterful overlay of gentle acoustic textures, emotional turbulence and philosophical insight. It features a guest appearance by Darrell Scott, a long-time mentor to Dunbar. She currently lives in Utica, NE, where she writes songs at the kitchen table after sending off her husband and the kids.

Joining Dunbar is Tim Grimm. For more than 15 years, Grimm has blended his love for songwriting, travel and the storytelling of acting (theatre, film and television). After he earned an MFA in Theatre from the University of Michigan, he studied briefly at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music while working in regional theater. He soon heard the call of Hollywood, where he co-starred in the NBC drama Reasonable Doubts for two seasons, worked with Harrison Ford in the movie Clear and Present Danger and pursued other projects throughout the 1990s. As the decade ended, Grimm made a conscious choice to live a life of significance rather than one of “success" and returned home to Indiana. He now lives with his wife on 80 acres close to where he grew up. Tim’s songs are full of the rural rumblings that have shaped his life—rich with descriptive details, and sung with warmth and intimacy—recognizing the inextinguishable national romance with the idea of the family farm and the vanishing landscape of rural America.
