Joe Kelly’s photographs from New York City in 1981 explore the juxtaposition of the dream-like space of Studio 54 against the realities of the streets of New York. Representing depictions of political rallies, rock n’ roll, and late-night clubs.
On September 12, 1981, Studio 54 re-opened with a guest list consisting of A-listers such as Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein and Brooke Shields. Joe Kelly grabbed his Leica and a flash, and took it upon himself to capture New Yorkers lost in solitary, or at times ecstatic moments at Studio 54. Joe will give a short artist talk regarding those days and what his work represents.
Our featured musician for the evening will be Matt Hopper. A mainstay of the Kansas City jazz scene, Matt is the featured musician of the Green Lady Lounge regularly playing with his bands Agora, the Matt Hopper Trio and Boogaloo 7.
Enjoy with hors 'd'oeuvres from Howard's and drinks from Boulevard Brewing Company.
